Prestigious Fashion Industry Award to Recognize the United Nations

The fashion and lifestyle sector has a significant impact on society and the environment.

From the fashion choices consumers make, to companies rethinking their circularity strategy and, to sustainability-inspired trends and social media campaigns, the entire fashion industry should be engaged to design the sustainable future of fashion.

The UN Office for Partnerships is proud to announce that the United Nations will receive the 2022 Environmental Sustainability Award of the Council of Fashion Designers of America. The UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed will accept this prestigious award, known as the Oscars of the fashion industry, on behalf of the UN during a gala ceremony on 7 November in New York City. The awards celebrate the outstanding talent and innovation of designers, stylists and other fashion industry leaders.

Among the other awardees are the singer-songwriter and designer Lenny Kravitz, who will receive the CFDA’s 2022 Fashion Icon Award; Virgil Abloh, the late artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s men’s wear collection, recognized for his contribution to global fashion; the brand SKIMS, who will receive the Inaugural Innovation Award to highlight the brand’s innovative consumers engagement, and more to come. To mark the CFDA’s 60th anniversary year, the organization is adding a one-time Special Anniversary Award, which goes to longtime acclaimed Men’s Fashion Designer, Jeffrey Banks.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) is an iconic non-profit fashion industry organization that works towards supporting the growth and innovation within the American fashion industry. Since the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the CFDA has promoted the Global Goals and created a wide spectrum of tools and resources enabling the industry to rethink and reshape the way of doing business.
